Low Mortgage Interest Rates. Yes, mortgage rates have been low for a few years. But they have never been this low. 30 year mortgages have been advertised under 3.50% recently. Ask someone who bought a home in the 1980s or 1990s and you’ll understand just how low this actually is. Not only does the low interest rate mean you will pay less for the money you borrow, but you may also have the opportunity to afford a more expensive home which allows you to get one that meets all of your wants and needs instead of just most of them.

Large Quantity of Homes Now on the Market. In the midst of a recession, many homeowners who wanted to sell chose not to sell their home over the past few years. They may have felt they could not have received an offer that they could accept (in fact, some home owners who put their homes on the market did receive offers that were too low for them to accept). They may have felt they were not in a financial position to upgrade their home due to their own financial situation. Whichever the individual case, what has happened is that many of these homeowners have now put their homes on the market. That means there is ample supply for you to choose from, along with sellers who are somewhat eager to move forward with their own situation.

These circumstances won’t last forever. In all likelihood mortgage rates will stop falling and begin to rise at some point. And the best homes on the market will eventually sell. So whether you want to buy a home in Lake George, Bolton Landing or other areas of the Adirondacks, the combination of great selection, reasonable prices and the low cost of borrowing money makes it an ideal time to start looking more seriously at moving forward.
