Things to Do in the Lake George Region This Fall

Often touted as a popular summer vacation destination, Lake George offers full-time residents an abundance of year-round activities. In fact, with fewer crowds, cooler temperatures and the changing leaves, fall is the perfect season to explore all that the Lake George Region has to offer.

If you are thinking about visiting the area, or perhaps moving to Lake George, here are just a few of the events and activities you can look forward to after summer draws to a close.

Fall Things to Do in the Lake George Region

Jazz at the Lake Enjoy a weekend full of free jazz concerts on the shores of picturesque Lake George. Held on September 15-16 at the amphitheater in Shepard’s Park on Canada Street, the Lake George Jazz Weekend features several afternoon and evening performances by a variety of talented jazz musicians. Bring your chairs or blankets and pack a picnic, or listen from your boat.

The Adirondack Balloon Festival This free, family-friendly event is the oldest and largest hot air balloon festival on the East Coast. Watch as hundreds of balloons from around the world take flight against the beautiful backdrop of the Adirondack Mountains. Now in its 46th year, the 2018 Adirondack Balloon Festival will be held on September 20-23 at Crandall Park in Glens Falls and the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury.

Taste of the North Country Foodies flock to this annual fall food festival featuring the best restaurants in Glens Falls, Lake George and the Southern Adirondacks. Held in Glens Falls City Park on Maple Street, the 2018 Taste of the North Country is scheduled for Sunday, September 30 from 11am-3pm. Tickets cost $5 for adults (children under 12 are admitted for free) and food coupons are available for $1 each. Samples from participating restaurants range from 1 to 4 coupons.

Hiking in the Adirondacks Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly hike, or something more advanced, the Southern Adirondacks offer some of the best mountains, trails and scenic views in the Northeast. Fall is the perfect time to check out these 5 hikes near Lake George and Bolton Landing. I’ve done all five and highly recommend each one for fantastic views of Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains.

Lake George Steamboat Company For breathtaking views of the fall foliage surrounding the lake, set sail with the Lake George Steamboat Company. From one-hour paddlewheel cruises on the Minne Ha Ha steamboat to sunset dinner cruises and themed events for Mardi Gras, Oktoberfest and Canadian Thanksgiving, you’ll find a wide variety of cruises through mid-October. Tickets range from $10 to $60.

There’s More to Explore in the Southern Adirondacks

Whether you’re seeking an autumn adventure, or house hunting for homes on Lake George, fall is the perfect season to visit the Southern Adirondacks.
