What To Do This March If You Plan To Sell Your Home This Summer

For any of us who call Lake George home, this has been a gentle Winter. Although there is ice on the lake, temperatures have been relatively mild and the snowfall totals have been low. While this may mean a little shorter ski season, if you have plans to sell your Lake George home this Summer it means you can get a jump on preparation. So if things stay the same weather-wise the rest of March, here are some things you may be able to check off your ‘To Do List’.

Clear Debris From The Yard

Even though the Winter has been kind to us, we have seen our share of storms (both snow and rain) as well as some fierce wind gusts. Since there might not be too much snow (if any) on your lawn, take a few hours to walk around the property and gather up branches and other items that may have made their way to your yard. If this doesn’t take long, you may want to even start some raking to take care of the leaves.

Outside Work On The Home

Most years homeowners in Lake George don’t have a chance to do any work on the exterior of their homes until April at the earliest. If things keep going the way they are, some residents may be able to do a lot, even paint their homes. Depending on the weather, that may not be a good idea. But you can look to power wash your siding, make sure your gutters are working properly and make any needed repairs on decks and porches.

Check How Similar Homes Have Done Over Past 3 Months

Get an idea of what similar homes in the area have sold for over the Winter. Although you don’t have to stick to these numbers to develop the price you want to get for your home, it is good to have an idea of the current market. It gives you a realistic view of what is possible. Is the market heating up, or have things cooled down? This is also a good time to contact a real estate agent to answer questions, go over the home selling process and schedule Open Houses.

List Your Home For Sale

You may think this is crazy, or way too early, but if your home is in good shape now, get a head start on the market and list it. Most homes don’t sell overnight, so it is not likely that you’d have an offer on April 1. And even if you do get quality offers early, there is process to go through to complete the sale and set a closing date. So you do have some time.
